Born and raised in Southampton, Long Island, Mara draws inspiration from the boundless beauty of her environment’s natural surroundings. Mara embraces the sublime notion that humans are not separate from, but rather quite connected to, all of Nature. “Beauty surrounds us wherever we go,” states the artist who takes ordinary, temporal moments in daily life and translates them into a constellation of pictorial impressions.

"I've been painting since my earliest recollection, as a child. And my style has evolved over the years but big bold color has been a consistent characteristic. Without even realizing it, for years, I have been creating a brand. People recognize my style and compositions, various themes and passion for color. Some of the biggest brands that I can think of are successful because of the way they make you look or feel. I am told that people feel uplifted by my work. They feel happy and internalize a positive energy. And, while I may not be able to change the way you "look" I'd like to think I could change the way you see."
Mara earned her BA from Marymount College, 1978 (Arlington VA). In addition to solo shows at The Union League Club (New York, NY); Westchester Country Club (Rye NY); Lois Richards Gallery (Greenwich, CT) and Genesis Gallery (Stamford, CT), Mara has exhibited at 4 North Main Gallery (Southampton, NY); Terence Joyce Gallery (Greenport, NY); Privet Cove (Southampton, NY); Topiaire (Southampton, NY); Paumanok Vineyard (Aquebogue, NY); Deshuk Gallery (Bridgehampton, NY); Post Office Café (Babylon, NY); and Le Chef Restaurant (Southampton, NY). Mara’s artworks are featured in many prominent public and private collections including Quest Diagnostics Training Center (East Rutherford, NJ) and the Legacy Club in MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ) where her site-specific mural has been acquired as part of their Permanent Collection, commissions for Three Village Inn (Stonybrook, NY); and collaboration with the Super Bowl XLVIII Host Committee to create a limited edition series of her prints and design items.
